Advanced Applications: Industry

For industrial applications, the HIGH-LEIT SCADA system can be used for all infrastructural applications and, moreover, for industrial applications such as energy management and accounting. IDS systems are also used in industry, fulfilling not only the “classical” tasks for the monitoring of power, water, heat and gas supply systems, but also for other applications, such as:

Alarm and Fault Management

SCADA systems can be used for the acquisition and archiving of fault alarms in electric power supply grids in their correct chronological order, for fault analysis. The connection of commercially available alarm terminals (e.g. mobile phones for voice output and SMS, emails and fax) are supported by the HIGH-LEIT SCADA system. The connection of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) aids the user in the quick elimination of faults.

Communication Management

IDS technology supports both horizontal and vertical data communication. IDS HIGH-LEIT, for instance, uses possibly available, highly-redundant and powerful internal networks for communication with the RTUs via a variety of different transmission protocols. For data transmission, the following automation and telecontrol devices are available: IDS 640, IDS 650, ACOS 750 and IDS 850.

Information Transfer

Digital communication systems are used for the multiple utilisation of the available transmission networks. The transmission capacity of the network can be enhanced through “dynamic multiplexing”.

Monitoring and Control of non-electric types of Energy in Chemical Plants.
IDS implements automation and control systems for steam, compressed air and cooling installations and distribution systems.

Energy Management

Energy data management systems from IDS support industrial enterprises in the efficient acquisition and evaluation of energy quantity data. The consumption data of different types of energy (electricity, heat, steam, …) are recorded, verified by a plausibility text, subdivided according to the different accounts and are treated for further processing in the neighbouring systems. Different data acquisition procedures are possible, such as, for instance, the connection of existing data acquisition systems, decentralised input of consumption data via Web terminals or the use of modern terminals. The system is rounded off by a comprehensive portfolio management function for procurement. The IDS systems include core functions which can be expanded to fulfil project-specific requirements. During project analysis, the company-specific processes are carefully examined together with the customer; based on these findings, tailor-made solutions will then be implemented.

Operating Systems for Generator Control

IDS control systems can be designed as redundant systems for emergency operation. In the event of a power system control failure, IDS systems take over, for instance, the operation and monitoring of generators.
